A Ferguson police officer shot and critically wounded a man who police say pointed a handgun at the officer early Wednesday in Ferguson at 1 a.m. CDT on Aug. 13.

The shooting was near the intersection of West Florissant Avenue and Chambers Road, close to the area of protests against police in the shooting of Michael Brown.

Police arrived to the scene after receiving a call that “four people wearing ski masks and armed with shotguns were in the area,” the L.A. Times reports.

The subject is in a local hospital in critical condition.

Persons wanting to rally, protest or pray have been instructed by Ferguson to do so only during the day.
