Disney Removes Confederate Flag From Exhibit

Walt Disney World has taken down a version of the Confederate flag in its Epcot theme park, according to the International Business Times.

The banner was part of a display that took visitors through the history of the United States. The flag was showcased along with more than 40 other banners in Epcot as the American Adventure guests watched an animatronics show that referenced slavery, the Civil War and abolitionists.

The move comes days after the theme park removed a Bill Cosby bust statue from its Hall of Fame Plaza on Tuesday night. The decision was made after court documents reportedly revealed that Cosby admitted to giving sedatives to a woman he wanted to have sex with.

The debate about the significance of the Confederate flag was reignited after the Charleston church shooting in South Carolina on June 17. 21-year-old Dylan Storm Roof killed nine Black churchgoers as they worshiped at Bible study.

South Carolina’s Senate voted to remove the Confederate flag from its Statehouse grounds as a result of pressure from protesters. Gov. Nikki Haley is expected to sign the bill on Thursday.
