CPD to Boost Patrol Memorial Day Weekend

Chicago police will add additional officers to the city’s streets for Memorial Day weekend. CPD Superintendent Eddie Johnson says officers will also be present in the city’s parks and along its lakefront.

Johnson didn’t say how many officers would be added.

Memorial Day has become one of Chicago’s most violent weekends, WGN reports. Last holiday, 14 people died and more that 34 were injured.

The homicide rate is one more than the total for the two previous years combined.

Earlier this week, a Chicago resident said he wears a bulletproof vest because he fears for his life due to the violence. The city has seen nearly two dozen expressway shootings since the beginning of the year.
