Cop Who Killed Teen Charged With Murder

A suburban Dallas police officer who fatally shot a 16-year-old and wounded another juvenile was arrested on charges of murder and aggravated assault Wednesday.

Farmers Branch officer Ken Johnson was detained by police Wednesday night and was being booked into Dallas County Jail. He was released on bond early Thursday.

The shooting occurred on Sunday at a gas station in Addison. According to officials, Johnson saw a vehicle being burglarized in his apartment complex parking lot and that he chased the suspects when they fled. After the suspects’ vehicle spun out, an altercation led to the shooting.

Jose Raul Cruz was killed and the other youth, who was also shot, was hospitalized. Cruz’s funeral was Wednesday night.

Johnson said he feared for his life. Authorities have not said whether the juveniles were armed. Johnson was not injured at the time.
