Professor Faces Firing Due To Religious Views

A Wheaton College Professor’s employment is teetering on the brink of a pink-slip.

Larycia Hawkins, an associate professor of political science at the evangelical collegiate institution in Illinois, has been placed on administrative leave following a statement she posted to her Facebook account, where she stated she would wear a hijab during the Advent season in support of Muslims.

The social media post read:

“I stand in religious solidarity with Muslims because they, like me, a Christian, are people of the book. And as Pope Francis stated last week, we worship the same God.”

It is unclear if she was making reference to the Pope’s November statement, where he said, “Christians and Muslims are brothers and sisters.”

Nevertheless, the comment stirred theological controversy and the school is now in the process of firing her due to an “impasse”, the Washington Post reports.

Upon receiving the news, Hawkins made a press statement. You can watch her address below.
