Chicago Protesters Stage Die-In at City Hall
The calm is far from settling in Chicago as protesters swarmed Michigan Avenue Wednesday night demanding change in the city.
Thursday morning, City Hall was met with nearly 100 medical students, who staged a “die-in” protest wearing white coats with hopes that Mayor Emanuel would announce his resignation.
Representing the number of times 17-year-old Laquan McDonald was shot by Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke in 2014, the demonstrators laid silent for 16 minutes.
Mayor Emanuel issued an apology on behalf of the city, CPD, and the way in which the McDonald case was handled. Still, there is immense pressure to get him out of office.
University of Chicago and Rush Hospital medical scholars, along with area residents, expressed that the violence and lack of accountability is more than just a public safety crisis but also a public health crisis, reports ABC 7 Chicago.
The message is powerful and clear: No rest until positive change becomes apparent.
