Woman Shot, Gives Birth to Healthy Baby

A 23-year-old pregnant Chicago woman who was shot in the city over Labor Day weekend has given birth to a healthy baby, WLS reports.

Crystal Meyers was shot in the stomach and leg near 53rd and Peoria around 3:15 p.m. Sunday. She was transported to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, but eventually her condition was upgraded to stable.

“I was upstairs, and I heard the shots, and I looked out the window, and I seen some guy running across the lot,” said Tyler Thomas, the victim’s grandfather.

Family members say Meyers was nine months pregnant when she was shot. They said she delivered the baby via C-section.

Albert Moore, Meyers’ boyfriend, was shot in the back. He was transported to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.

An alarming 65 people were shot in Chicago during the holiday weekend, with almost half being injured between 6 a.m. Monday and 3 a.m. Tuesday.

The weekend was the deadliest holiday weekend for the city, with incidents bringing the homicide tally up to 512 for 2016.
