Celebs Support Black Women’s Expo 2014

In it’s 20th year, this year’s Black Women’s Expo attracted scores of Chicagoans to patronize vendors, attend panels and enjoy the live entertainment. Beginning on Friday, March 28, and concluding on Sunday, March 30, the event was held at McCormick Place and provided a means to support Black businesses and entertainers.

Speakers included Robin Roberts, Kym Whitley, LisaRaye, Zane, Dick Gregory and Laz Alonso, who sat down to chat with JET. “Events like this give you a hands-on opportunity to meet the people who support you year-round,” shared Alonso who flew in from New York just for the event. “I want to connect with the fans who give me so much. This is my time to thank them personally because without them, I’m not me.” Alonso, along with other celebs, took time to take photos, meet attendees and enjoy the expo.

Put on by MGPG Events,Inc., the event’s success has led to talks of bringing it to other places across the country. “Hopefully, the expo will be in Washington, D.C.,” founder Merry Green told DNAinfo Chicago. “I don’t know if it will be in every city, but I would like to do a national tour.”
