Calvin Klein is in the process of rolling out its new #MyCalvins campaign. The famed fashion brand tapped Harlem rapper A$AP Rocky, Pose actor Indya Moore and social media rap sensation Chika Oranika for the I Speak My Truth in #MyCalvins ad.
Consisting of videos directed by Jonas Lindstroem and images shot by fashion photographer Mario Sorrenti, I Speak My Truth celebrates the individuality and self expression of the artists featured in the campaign while encouraging others to do the same.
A$AP Rocky said, “”Growing up in New York City, I live life on the edge,” during his ad. “So when it comes to sex, it ain’t no different than the streets. Keep that s**t hot baby.”
Moore, who was named the face of the brand’s Pride capsule collection, said, “I used to tell my friends, I’m ugly before 10AM and I’d warn them to just not look at me.” They (the transwoman’s chosen pronoun) continued, “But not anymore. I won’t wait to be free. I speak my truth in my Calvins.”
Chika Oranika said, “There were so many people that told me I wouldn’t be able to do certain shoots and to be comfortable with myself enough to do certain things…that’s not the point of me existing,” in her ad.
In a press release, the brand said, “We believe that embracing authentic self-expression creates a platform for authentic connections–and ultimately a catalyst for change.” If the new campaign is any indication of Calvin Klein’s dedication toward inclusion and change, it looks like the brand accomplished its goal.
