Broadway Actor Says He Was Called N-word
A Black Broadway actor said he was assaulted in broad daylight early Thursday by a White Nevada woman who repeatedly called him the N-word, New York Daily News reports.
Elijah Ahmad Lewis is an ensemble member in “Motown the Musical.” The New York resident says he was in Reno to perform the show when a stranger began yelling at him, charged at him and hit him in the neck.
He posted a video of what followed the incident Tuesday night to his Facebook page. The woman allegedly could be heard on the video saying, “Do not record me you f***ing n***er,” as she walks away.
The unidentified woman reportedly continued to insult Lewis as he followed her for about a minute, later turning and walking towards him as she said the N-word over and over again.
Lewis, who said he was not seriously injured as a result of the encounter, said he posted the incident online partly to show that racism isn’t a practice of just old people, because his assailant was fairly young.
The City of Reno told the Daily News that it does not condone the behavior displayed in the video.
“The City of Reno embraces diversity and welcomes visitors.”
Police are investigating.
