Bowie State University student Kevin Hayes has filed a $3 million lawsuit against Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity for hazing.

Hayes alleges he was beaten on a daily basis for several hours between September 2013 and December 2013, according to NBC Washington.

The university, which is not named in the lawsuit, released the following statement regarding “a stringent anti-hazing policy that is coupled with a strong anti-hazing education program. The university considers hazing to be indefensible and contrary to the interest of the university community.”

All activities for the Baltimore-based Alpha Phi Alpha chapter have been suspended. If convicted, those involved can receive up to six months in jail and face a $500 fine, according to Maryland’s anti-hazing law.
