Officials Meet to Discuss School Officer Assault
Baltimore City Schools CEO Gregory Thornton has met with parents to discuss a cellphone video showing a school police officer slapping and kicking a teen at a school.
Thornton said during the private meeting Monday that he’ll review training and selection of school police officers.
Baltimore is the only Maryland city whose school district has its own police force, separate from municipal police.
City police have launched a criminal investigation into last week’s incident at REACH Partnership School.
The officer, identified as 44-year-old Anthony C. Spence, as well as a female officer shown standing by in the eight-second clip and Baltimore School Police Chief Marshall Goodwin have all been placed on paid administrative pending the investigation.
