Aide to NY Governor Dies After Shooting
An attorney who was part of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration has died, USA TODAY reports.
A family spokesman said 43-year-old Carey Gabey was taken off a respirator early Wednesday after being struck by a stray bullet on Sept. 7.
Gabey’s family said he had been declared brain dead earlier Tuesday.
“He was a prince among men,” friend and family spokesman Errol Cockfield said via an e-mail to USA TODAY late Wednesday.
Gabay had been in critical condition at the Kings County Hospital Center since being shot in the head while seeking cover from gang-related gunfire as he walked a Brooklyn street.
His family released the following statement Tuesday night.
“There are difficult decisions we will face in the coming hours and days as our family struggles to process what this means for us. We ask that our privacy be respected during this difficult time.”
