In Act of Rage, Man Fatally Punches 2-Year-Old

A New Jersey man tossed a punch at a 2-year-old in the chest, that left him unconscious and ultimately killed him, CBS Philly reports.

24-year-old Zachary Tricoche of Pennsauken was arraigned for murder charges on Tuesday in Camden County Superior Court.

Before the deadly assault, the suspect got into a heated altercation with his girlfriend over not buying groceries that he preferred. The woman told detectives that her son went flying across the room after Tricoche punched him in the chest twice.

Prosecutors report that Tricoche instructed the toddler to put his fists up and fight back. Around 11:30 p.m. the mother called 911 saying the child was unresponsive after vomiting.

The woman’s son, identified as Jamil Baskerville Jr., was transported to Cooper University Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after.

The 2-year-old’s grandfather angrily voiced his disdain over the incident after Tuesday’s arraignment.

“You’re less of a man to sit there and put your hands on any type of child, no matter what age it is,” DeShieds said. “He was two years old. There should be no reason you should want to hit him.”

A medical examination revealed that Jamil’s liver was crushed and he eventually bled to death internally. His death was ruled a homicide and the cause of death is listed as blunt force trauma.

Tricoche’s bail is set at $1 million.
