LISTEN: J. Cole Dedicates Song to Michael Brown

Since the shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo. last Saturday, thousands of protesters have rallied together to fight against racism and police brutality.

One of the many citizens taking a stand is J. Cole.

The “Miss America” rapper released a new song titled “Be Free” early Friday morning, dedicated to “Michael Brown and to every young Black man murdered in America, whether by the hands of White or Black.”

This isn’t the first time the lyricist has tackled touchy social issues. Many of his songs and music videos cover an array of topics, from the war on drugs to political corruption; however, his latest project is arguably his most emotional one to date.

On his Dreamvillain blog site, he wrote, “That coulda been me, easily. It could have been my best friend. I’m tired of being desensitized to the murder of Black men.”

Give the track a listen, and tell us what you think in the comments.
