Drake Is Starring In A New Netflix Series!

Drake has been rapping and crooning for so long that many of us have forgotten that he got his start as an actor.

In the early 2000s, many of us knew and loved Aubrey “Drake” Graham as Jimmy on the hit teen drama, Degrassi: The Next Generation. Apparently, the 30-year old rapper is looking to return to his television roots in the forthcoming Netflix series, Top Boy.

Top Boy is a British series set in the fiction Summerhouse housing estate in Hackney, East London. The series provides insight into life in the London estates, and how drugs affect everyone living there. Two seasons of the series have already aired in the U.K., but Top Boy was canceled in 2013 before season three. However, in 2015, Ashley Walters who starred on the show said that he and Drake discussed reviving it for US audiences. In an hour-long interview with the YouTube talk series “Not for the Radio,” Walters said, “Drake thought [Top Boy] was proper. This was via text. I was speaking to Future mainly, Drake’s manager. We were going back and forth. And we were like, ‘Put a deal on the table.”

It looks like that deal has been made. Yesterday, the U.K’s Daily Mirror newspaper reported that Drake bought the rights to the series and he will be starring in a reboot of Top Boy along with Walters. British rapper Skepta is also set to star. The reboot of Top Boy is set to begin streaming in 2018 on Netflix.

If you would like to get all caught up on the series before the Canadian rapper makes his debut, the first two seasons of Top Boy are now streaming on Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu.
