Childish Gambino Puts a Halt on Retirement, Readies New Music
Childish Gambino fans, rejoice! Look’s like the “Redbone” star won’t be retiring from music any time in the near future.
Back in June, Donald Glover announced his pending retirement from the rap game, but a recent interview with BBC Radio 1 comes as an unexpected yet awesome update. He’s been living in London for a bit and apparently, the Big Ben vibes have re-energized the multi-faceted artist. “I’ve been working on [new music] here,” he shared about readying new material. “You guys have been very instrumental in my music. So I’m very happy about that. London has been very inspirational.”
Later he added: “You still have a lot more time of calling me [Childish Gambino], if you want.”
This, of course, arrives as good news to Gambino fans. Just two months ago, he shared his reasons behind dropping his moniker for good during a HuffPost interview. “There’s nothing worse than like a third sequel, like a third movie and we’re like, ‘again?’” he said. “Like I feel like there’s gotta be a reason to do things and I always had a reason to be punk. Being punk just always felt really good to me and we always looked at Atlanta as a punk show and I feel like the direction I would go with Childish Gambino wouldn’t be punk anymore. As much as ‘Redbone’ is a punk song because it’s a gospel song that’s on the radio, I’m like there’s only so far you can go before you just are the radio.”
Stay tuned for more updates and new music to come.
