Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow” Is the Highest-Charting Hot 100 Single Behind “Anaconda”
Cardi B ain’t the “regular, smhegula girl from the Bronx,” anymore.
The Bronx native is on the up and up and her latest single, “Bodak Yellow” has catapulted her to the forefront of mainstream rap. The single, inspired by Kodak Black’s 2014 hit “No Flockin,” is now the highest-charting Billboard Hot 100 single by an unaccompanied female rapper since Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda.”
Sitting at No. 14, Bodak has yet to surpass Nicki’s Sir Mix-A-Lot-inspired bop, which peaked at No. 2 when it dropped back in 2014. But the Queens rapper did show Cardi some love by reposting one of her videos where “Rake It Up” could be heard playing in the background. She captioned the clip with the heart emoji and the hashtag #LilBadTriniBish. “Omg!! Thank you so much for the love,” Cardi said in response.
Cardi recently had the crowd on a thousand at her MoMA PS1 Warm Up performance. Check out some clips below.
