The BET Awards came and went but the annual ceremony did not leave us without stand out moments and laughter galore. Despite a couple mishaps,  Saturday Night Live’s Leslie Jones held it down as our Mistress of Ceremonies, Bruno Mars, Mary J. Blige, New EditionXscape, and more came through to down.

Bruno Mars set it off on a good tip, opening the show with an energetic performance of his hit “Perm,” before soon returning to the stage to take home his first ever BET Award for Best Male R&B/Pop Artist. Mary J. Blige graced the stage with a remarkable performance of her own (and looking incredible while doing so), singing “Set Me Free” before being joined by A$AP Rocky and preforming their collaboration “Love Yourself.”

Apart from taking home the iconic Lifetime Achievement Award, New Edition took the stage to a standing ovation and performed “Mr. Telephone Man” and “Can You Stand The Rain” but not before the cast of The New Edition Story performed an incredible four song medley of “Candy Girl,” “Sensitivity,” “My Prerogative,” and “Can You Stand The Rain.”

The revival of Xscape was also a sight to see. Witnessing Tiny and Kandi outside of their reality t.v. element and back on the stage where they belong was surely a gift to Xscape fans everywhere. Reuniting for the first time in 18 years, the foursome performed “Understanding”, “Who Can I Run To” and “Just Kickin’ It.”

Chance The Rapper also took home the Humanitarian Award for his philanthropic efforts in Chicago, which eventually lead to Black America falling head over heels in love with lil Chano from 79th. Peep Michelle Obama’s tribute to Chance and his speech here. Head over to BET for more updates from the show. Want to know a list of last night’s winners? We’ve got you covered, too.
