5 Things: Raheem DeVaughn

The R&B star Raheem DeVaughn talks panties on stage, refurbishing old school cars and getting advice from Stevie Wonder.

1. Radio Raheem

“I have an Internet radio show on It airs Sundays from 7-9 p.m. ET,” shares the moonlighting host. “It’s called The Raheem DeVaughn Show. We have all kinds of guests, T.I., Miguel and Kendrick Lamar. The cool things is that you can also watch it on your smartphone.”

2. Something Old, Something New

“I like riding old school cars. I got my first one three years ago. It was a ’64 Impala,” he shares. “I put in a new engine and shoes (rims and tires). Now I have two more, an ’05 Corvette and ’65 El Dorado.”

3. Idol Time

“Stevie Wonder is one of my mentors,” DeVaughn says. “I have a good relationship with him. In fact, back in ’09 he encouraged me to put out a double album. He even shared his experience with Motown and Berry Gordy.”

4. DMV Love

“I’m king in Washington, D.C.,” he says of his hometown. “The city and surrounding area loves me so much. I”m blessed. In 2011, they gave me my own day. It’s May 5th, my birthday. They gave me the key to the city.”

5. Panty Dropper

“Fans throw a lot of panties on stage,” says the single crooner. “It’s funny because they bring an extra pair in their purses and write all kinds of notes on them.”
