Rolling in a Caddie

The new Cadillac XTS is one smooth ride

I recently have an opportunity to test drive Cadillac’s new XTS. Two words: Smooth sailing.

As the proud owner of a 2001 Honda Accord, I’ve made peace with not having the niceties that accompany a luxury vehicle from this decade. Still, I have to say rolling in the Caddie left me jonesing. At first, I was intimated by the thought of getting behind the wheel of the big-bodied sedan. Would I be able to handle it on the road? There was only one way to find out…shopping trip!

I called two of my best girls and had them meet me for a two-hour drive upstate New York to eyeball the new inventory at our favorite outlet. From the moment I got behind the wheel I noticed a little extra attention coming my way — men aren’t used to seeing a woman in the driver’s seat of such a sturdy, prestigious vehicle— and pushing it is just what I did. I took advantage of all of the car’s perks, from navigation to satellite radio, during our two hour sojourn.

My favorite features included what I like to call the “rumble effect”( actually known as the Safety Alert Seat), a slight shaking of the driver’s seat whenever a car is too close or you’re floating out of your lane, the remote start and the CUE system (Cadillac User Experience), which customizes your technological interactions — think iPad to voice recognition— in the car. Another noted boon was how easy the car was to maneuver. Despite it’s impressive size and powerful engine, it wasn’t heavy and it didn’t accelerate too quickly.

Overall, the Cadillac is a luxury car I’d love to have in driveway — or run to every morning at 8am for alternate side of the street parking (gotta love New York). If you’re in the car market, it’s definitely worth checking out.

The Cadillac XTS starts at $44,075.
