Retailers Adopt Shop-and-Frisk Fix
Anti-profiling policies are in place for several of New York’s leading retailers, hoping to bring down the shop-and-frisk commotion regarding recent allegations in many of their stores.
Stores such as Barneys, Macy’s, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord & Taylor and Gap are all agreeing to abide by a “Customer Bill of Rights” posed by community activist Rev. Al Sharpton.
The one-page document drafted by the Retail Council of New York State says, “Employees who violate the company’s prohibition on profiling will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.”
