K Love the Poet, one of Chicago’s popular spoken word artists, shared her thoughts through poetry on the crippling threat of violence in the city. With recent tragedies such as the shooting death of Tyshawn Lee and aspiring model Kaylyn Pryor, K Love gives us her account of what causes these shootings in the first place.
“The mother on the bus,” as this wonderfully crafted poem begins, explores the state of mind of troubled teens and how they come to justify their actions through violence.
The poem was performed in front of a large crowd at the CineCares Foundation’s Galaween event this past Saturday.
The event highlighted the efforts of individuals from the police, fire, and medical departments in Chicago.
