3 Fun Summer Workouts

Summertime is here and the outdoors is where you want to be. I know there’s a lot of pressure with hitting the gym to get beach body ready, but you can still achieve the same goals outdoors while getting a great strength and cardio session in. Plus, you can take advantage of the natural air, the great scenery and get the Vitamin D you need from the sun, which will help to increase your motivation and self-esteem!

Sometimes staying in the gym with all the heavy duty equipment, dumbbells and cardio machines can get a little redundant. So get your sweat on outside with these fun workouts.

1. The Park Workout

Go to a nearby park and use a bench to perform these 3 calorie-burning moves.

Step ups. Steps ups are great for strengthening your legs and toning your calves, butt, thighs and core. Try 4 sets of 12 to 15 steps on each leg. If the bench is too high, beginners can try a curve side to achieve the same movement.

Tricep dips. These moves can really tone up your arms for the summer to have them sexy and ready for the beach. Try 4 sets of 10 to 15 dips.

Leg Raises. These are great to tone up your abs. Especially helps with eliminating the “pudge” the lower abdominal that sometimes gets in the way of our belts. A major concern area for some. If this is you, you’re going to love this exercise! Try 3 sets of 15 to 20 reps.

2. The Beach Workout

What’s so awesome about the beach is that there’s sand that acts as a natural resistance to your body just as if you were in the gym lifting weights. The following 3 workouts combine both cardio and strength to help you increase your conditioning, especially in the hot summer days.

Sand Sprints. There’s nothing like running in the sand for a nice challenge every once in a while. You can pick a start and finish landmark and run about 20 yards back and forth across the beach for 4 sets of 15 to 20 second sprints. Beginners can do a comfortable jog or fast walk back and forth.

Beach Lunges.Using the same path you took for your sprints, now try lunging back and forth alternating your feet to help increase your lower body strength. Lunges really activate the butt and thigh muscles.

Crab Walks. This move is extremely fun, and with a group of friends around you can turn this move into a relay race. You get a total body combo with this exercise. Here you work your abs, arms and legs. Try crab walking down and back about 20 yards for 4 sets. Remember this can be done individually or with a partner.

3. The Backyard Workout

There’s no excuse for getting any workout in when you can try these 3 quick and effective calorie-burning moves right in the comfort of your own backyard.

Jumping Jacks. If you’re looking for a great cardio move, jumping jacks are truly effective. Try 4 sets of 30 reps.

Mountain Climbers. This is my favorite ab move that works all 4 major abdominal muscles. Try 4 sets of 30 reps. Beginners can start at 15 reps.

Jump Squats. Here’s a great way to lift your butt and tone your front thighs (quads). Jump Squats make regular squats even more fun by adding the hop! Try 4 sets of 20 to 30 reps to feel the burn.
