Instagram Is Still Coming for Snapchat With Its Latest Features
It was bound to happen. Less than a year after introducing the Stories feature, Instagram is still coming for Snapchat and today the photo-sharing social media app launched several new features with the most-buzzed about one being face filters.
The face filter market was something Snapchat had cornered for a long time, but not anymore.
Instagram’s press release described the new face filters, saying, “Today, we’re introducing face filters in the camera, an easy way to turn an ordinary selfie into something fun and entertaining. Whether you’re sitting on the couch at home or out and about, face filters help you express yourself and have playful conversations with friends.”
Face filters that are currently available include math equations swirling around your head, furry koala ears that move, bunny ears and a golden goddess crown. You can access the face filters by swiping into the camera, tapping the new icon on the bottom right corner and trying on the different filters.
Another new Instagram feature are hashtag stickers that can now be added to your stories.
The eraser brush is also part of the latest version of Instagram. It allows you to erase things you’ve drawn in your stories and you can remove color from sections of your drawings. To use the eraser brush, you take a photo, then tap and hold one of the drawing tools to fill the entire screen with color. Then you use the eraser brush to “creatively reveal parts of your photo or video underneath,” according to the press release.
For those of you who love to make Boomerangs, there is now a rewind function where you can record video in reverse on Instagram. “Rewind” located next to “Boomerang” and “Hands Free” in the camera tool.
These Instagram features sound cool, but most users just want simple things like their timelines back in order and to make links clickable in captions. Hopefully, we’ll get those sooner than later.
