Fit Friday: How to Get Michelle Obama’s Arms

Our First Lady Michelle Obama’s stamp in history would not be complete without acknowledging her well-sculpted arms. As a trainer, I have encountered women that want toned arms just as much as a bigger backside. In short, we want arms like Mrs. Obama.

But what’s the secret? How does the First Lady stay so fit and toned?

First, we must understand that flab is nothing but extra fat on your arms and the quickest way to combat it is to incorporate cardiovascular endurance into your workout at least 1-2 hours a week. Cardio builds lean muscle mass, an essential key to toned arms. You can break your time up into 5 20-30 minute sessions five days a week. Running, swimming, jump rope and/or boxing are all great ways to get that heart pumping.

Second, the general rule of exercise for toning and sculpting your body is moderate to heavy weight training with 15-20 repetitions. The body utilizes more energy when lifting heavier weight.  The more energy you utilize, the more calories you burn, and the more calories burned, the more muscle built. For toned Michelle Obama arms, there are a few key workouts that will get the job done: bicep curls, tricep extensions and push-ups, to name a few. Try completing 4 sets of 20 repetitions with heavier weight for optimal results!

Lastly, incorporate a clean nutritional diet into your lifestyle. Our first lady Michelle Obama did not maintain or create her sculpted arms with a poor diet. The only way to build lean muscle mass and shred fat is to eat healthy! The arms are no exception when it comes to toning and building muscle.
