Kicks have long been a major key of DJ Khaled’s brand. An avid sneaker collector, the Miami-based DJ/producer has partnered with the likes of Champs Sports and Zappos, but now he’s finally presented the world with his very own sneaker; the Air Jordan 3 “Grateful” PE.
During his recent #FanLuv meet and great at Stadium Goods in NYC, Khaled chopped it up with Miss Info about his eye-catching Air Jordan collaboration. According to Khaled, having his own Air Jordan sneaker is something that’s been 15 years in the making. When he pulled up to the Jordan offices in Oregon, Khaled didn’t come empty handed. Explaining that the Air Jordan 3 is his favorite of all the lines signature sneakers, Khaled already had a specific design for his Air Jordan 3 PE for about 4-5 years.
DJ Khaled’s Air Jordan 3 “Grateful” maintains some of the famed silhouettes signature details, but stands out from the pack with it’s bright red tumbled leather upper that Khaled reveals is inspired by the Miami Heat and Chicago Bulls color schemes. The kicks, of course, feature the name of Khaled’s “WE THE BEST” record label on the heel tabs, but it wouldn’t really be a DJ Khaled affair without some nods to social media. The inside of the heel tab sports some hidden details in the form of several Khaled-inspired hashtags. One inside tab reads “#GREATFUL,” “#WeTheBest,” and “#stillinthemeeting,” while the other says “#majorkey,” “#blessup,” and “#jumpman23.”
Khaled’s new album, Grateful, is available everywhere on June 23. The album includes singles “To The Max” feat. Drake and “Wild Thoughts” feat. Rihanna and Bryson Tiller. In addition to his anticipated LP, the Snapchat king will also be winning this summer with a cameo in Marvel’s Spiderman: Homecoming. Given the bright red colorway of the Air Jordan 3 “Grateful,” don’t be surprised if you see Khaled rocking his Jays in the blockbuster flick.
