Rent the Runway: Holiday Dress Review
Ladies, we’ve all been there before: buy a fancy dress for a special event and wear it exactly once. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
Recently, I asked you, the lovely readers of JETmag.com, to vote on which Beyonce-inspired dress I should wear to our company holiday party earlier this week. I had a gift certificate for Rent the Runway, a site that allows you to throw down a fraction of a frock’s actual price.
Good news: You all chose my favorite, the gold Nanette Lepore Joan of Arc Mini! Bad news: It was back-ordered until early January. Boo!
So, I decided to go with the runner-up: the longed-sleeved sequin number by Mark & James by Badgley Mischka and it was a HIT! Rental value: $75, retail value: $495.
From beginning to end, the rental process was super easy. If you’re a first-time renter, you can enjoy $25 off your purchase. After you’ve picked your item (Rent the Runway is full of designer dresses and accessories), you book them for either a four-day or eight-day rental. Select your delivery date and you’re good to go!
Word to the wise: Opt for the second (free) size, just in case your first option doesn’t fit. You never know, all designers do not size equally. And did I mention the second size is free?!
In the event that nothing fits, the Rent the Runway Go-To Girls are usually able to overnight another dress. For this reason, you should schedule your delivery date a couple of days before your big event, just in case you need to make a last-minute swap.
The package arrived on time with a pre-paid UPS envelope for ease of returning. Bonus: you get to keep the garment bag and hangers, woohoo!
Overall, I had a pleasant rental experience and I would definitely do it again. I absolutely loved the dress and the fit was perfect (between you and me, I wanted to keep it forrreverrr!) So if you’re looking for a one-night only designer dress for a New Year’s Eve party, holiday shindig or an upcoming wedding, consider Rent the Runway and let the compliments roll in!
