9 Spring Trends You Should Try

From crop tops to camo, our fashion contributor shares spring trends you should try this season.

Spring is one of the most exciting times of the year, the snow melts away, flowers start to bloom and we finally get hang up our winter coats (yay)! But my favorite part of spring is the fashion!

Spring never disappoints in terms of trends and 2014 is no different – pastel hues, crop tops, sporty styles and even overalls are all the rage this year. So today, I’m tackling these trends and taking them from runway to everyday. Consider this you’re go-to guide for Spring fashion 2014!

Crop that Top!
One of the best parts of spring is showing a little skin, so it’s no wonder crop tops are in style! These trendy items help play with proportions and go perfectly with high-wasited denim, skirts or even under overalls (like I did!).

Crop tops are nothing new, but they aren’t just for those six-pack gym rats anymore! If you’re like me, and can’t put down the Cookie Dough Ice Cream (okay, now I’m hungry), or just want to wear this trend while being a little conservative, a midi skirt is your new best friend! Pairing a crop top with a high-waisted midi (or anything else high-waisted) helps hide the hips, slim your waist and show a smidge of skin all while tackling this trend!

Pastels, please!
These girly hues have been revamped for spring. Pretty pastels are getting a chic makeover that takes the ultra-femme trend to a whole new level.

We’ve seen pastels for spring before, but this year it’s all about contrast! Pair pastels with girly accessories, but keep it interesting with an edgy shoe, or spice up an all-black outfit with a pastel pump! Don’t be afraid to double up on this trend, wearing baby pink pants with a powder blue shoe is a fresh way to translate this trend.

Overalls for All:
Oh hello 1996, thank you for the trend! Overalls are all the range this spring, proving that the ’90s are back and better than ever!

Rules to wear by:
“Don’t call it a comeback; I’ve been here for years.” Overalls have never looked sooo good: distressed, boyfriend and button details, the gang’s all here! When you’re wearing overalls, be sure to show a little skin with a cropped top (like I did), V-neck top or off the shoulder tee. If this trend is a little too crazy for you, substitute overalls for distressed boyfriend jeans or ripped denim skinnies!

Good Sport:
Put me in coach! Sporty styles are another spring must! Jogger shorts, perforated leather and stylish slide ons, give your gym gear a glamorous makeover!

This trend is perfect for weekend wear or even a mini vacay. It’s easy, effortless and just downtown cool – plus, it’s great to have a trend that allows for sneakers and flats! If you choose to go sporty, add a chic element such like metallic accessories or rich fabrics.

One of the great things about Spring is there is always an excess of trends! So if the first four trends weren’t for you, here are five more to try:

Mad about Metallics – Shiny silvers and gorgeous golds can go edgy, girly or anywhere in between!

Go Gingham – Picnic prints are making another comeback, but in an unexpected and slightly edgy way. Learn more about the gingham trend HERE.

Colored Exotics – Bright snakeskins and colored prints are a fun twist on a classic platform. Try sticking to accessories, because anything else can overwhelm an outfit.

Mixing Prints – Florals and stripes are always on trend, but why not pair these two prints together! If you keep the rest of the look simple, stick to complementary colors and pick your patterns wisely, you’ll mix spots and stripes with ease! More on pattern mixing HERE.

Cute in Camo – The camouflage print is also having a major moment for spring, but in a more feminine way. Pair camo with distressed boyfriends, neutral skinnies and even metallic – and be sure to always pump up your look with a high heel!
