Who’s That BOSS: Andrea Nichols-Everett
Andrea Nichols-Everett is The Exercise Habit Coach and CEO of D3:Dre’s Diesel Dome Fitness,LLC in Chicago. Dre opened D3 in May of 2007 because she was sick of “typical” gyms. She wanted to offer an alternative to what gyms provided so that members would feel a sense of community, be positively motivated, and always feel supported. D3 offers a variety of group fitness classes, weight loss transformation programs, and nutritional counseling. You can even learn how to make exercise a consistent habit at D3. D3 welcomes all fitness levels because each workout is modified up or down to accommodate beginners all the way to advanced athletes. At D3, the goal is: no intimidation, no judgement, and no ridicule. “D3 Is Where Group Fitness Feels Personal!”
The BOSS Network: Walk us through your journey to success. How did you get to this point?
Andrea Nichols-Everett: I have a background in human resource management and pharmaceutical sales but my absolute love for fitness is why I started D3. After having a difficult time making exercise a habit all my life, in 1999, I finally learned how to commit to exercise and I started to really love the way I felt and the way my body was transforming. I decided to become a fitness instructor that same year because I knew I could create super fun and effective workouts that could help others become consistent as well. I taught aerobics part time for 7 years while I maintained a full-time job. In 2007, after reading The Secret, I decided it was time for me to do what I truly loved and I started D3: Dre’s Diesel Dome Fitness, LLC. It’s been almost 8 years now and I am helping hundreds of people get in shape and stay in shape! And although it has been a very challenging journey, I am truly living my dreams.
TBN: What do you do to stay on top of your game professionally?
ANE:I read and I study constantly. It’s very important to stay current on all fitness trends because I never want my members to get bored. I am also constantly studying new ways to market my business. I read a book a week to make sure I stay on my A game at all times.
TBN: How do you balance your personal life with your professional?
ANE: This is really difficult for me because I love what I do and I just want to work all the time. However, over the years, I have learned that I am actually better and much more focused when I give myself a break just to enjoy my life. My husband and family also help me with this because they know I am a super “Type A” overachiever and they help me balance my work and my time spent with them. It’s not always easy, but I continue to work on this–it’s really a work in progress to say the least.
TBN: What advice would you give to a budding entrepreneur or career woman?
ANE: The best advice I could give is: learn the art of patience. I think many entrepreneurs think that when they start their businesses that they will see what they consider “success” fairly quickly and that is usually never the case. For a sustainable business, it usually takes at least 5-7 years before you really start to build momentum. It can be very discouraging and quite frustrating when you are putting hours of work into your business and not really reaping the results you expected. But if you continue to sow, you will eventually reap. It just takes time and lots of patience…and prayer always helps as well.
TBN: What is your mission for D3?
ANE: D3’s main purpose is to help as many people as possible to get fit and healthy and stay fit and healthy. We strive to create a love for fitness in our members so they will easily make fitness a permanent part of their lives.
TBN: What does being a BOSS mean to you?
ANE: Being a BOSS is so much more than just a title, it’s a huge responsibility. Being a BOSS means that you are creating and managing a company with your own ideas and creativity to serve others in some capacity.
