Amandla Stenberg Stays ‘Woke’
“Black kids need to be told that they’re capable of so much.”
Words spoken by actress and generational voice of reason, Amandla Stenberg. The soon-to-be 17-year-old and comic book creator, continues to enlighten society with her thought-provoking statements, essays, and videos about cultural appropriation, race and authentic artistry.
In an “As Told To” format with The Fader, the creative shared her stance on the importance of being yourself and creating spaces where Black youth are uplifted and feel the freedom to express themselves.
“Now is a time for us to connect and bond over Blackness and the current day’s struggle, and to create things,” she stated.
In a world where attention is drawn to celebrities, social media and a growing racial divide, Amandla sees this time as a “tiny revolution” and a powerful time to “discuss issues with young people and begin conversations.”
She’s speaking loudly. Our hope is that this generation is truly listening.
