This weekend thousands of film, music, and technology lovers with invade Austin, TX for SXSW (South by Southwest) 2013. The annual conference and music festival is like an adult summer camp for the “who’s who” in technology, innovation, film and music. This year an even bigger effort is taking place to bring in more African-American techies to the event. Blacks in Technology, speared headed by Donnell Creech and his team from Griot Media, have put together a series of over 30 panels and events to help showcase the power of the African diaspora and technology. So why aren’t you here?
Here’s our top 10 tips on why you need to get your money together and get your rear-end down to Austin, TX for SXSW.
10. The Networking Game – If you’re looking for a career in Digital or Interactive media then SXSW is one of the best places to network. Every agency, start-up, venture capitalist, or anyone related to tech that you can think off will have at least one or two representatives in Austin. So be ready to sell yourself in 140 characters or less and make a long lasting connection during the week that could lead you to your next job.
9. The “Future Boo” Potential – The past few years have seen the rise of the sexy nerd/nerdette. SXSW is full of beautiful minds that will fully stimulate all of your cerebral needs. Many of the attendees work in marketing, technology, film, or music. With tons of informative panels and fun parties you are sure to run into someone who will catch your eye.
