Tell us your love story: Bride: Our love story begins at our “Home by the Sea,” better known as Hampton University, during my senior year in college. We met in the financial aid line at school. We sparked a conversation, started following one another on Twitter and spent that evening engaged in hours of discussion.
When did you know that your partner was the one? Bride: We knew each other was the one the moment we met our partner’s families. The love and connection we have for our family is strong and these moments solidified the love we felt for one another as well. We both could literally see our future through our loved ones and knew this union, and the joining of these two families was ordained by God.
How did he propose? Groom: Nearly two years after we reconnected, we moved to Charlotte, North Carolina to expand our careers and be closer to our families. We packed up our belongings and moved on February 25th, and two days later, as we were attending an annual family brunch at Sharise’s mother’s house, I popped the question in front of more than 70 family members and close friends. Sharise was so surprised, to say the least!
What do you love best about one another? Bride: We love the way we balance each other out seamlessly. Rich is calm and collected, and I am super energized and over the top, so we certainly bring out the best in each other every day.
What’s the key to the success of your relationship? Groom: The key to our relationship is one main thing: prayer. We pray together every day and ensure that God and our faith is at the center of our union at all times.
Why do you want to be included in JET love? Both: We want to be included in JET Love because we feel that our special day was an amazing union of two African-American families and a couple who met at an HBCU. The entire focus of our wedding day was family, our relationship and the connection that was built at Hampton University, and we think this is an awesome love story that readers would enjoy.
