When did you know that your partner was the one? Bride: Two weeks after we reunited in Atlanta in July of 2014, Owen drove up to Ohio to see me. When he got there, he handed me an envelope that was an unopened Valentine’s Day card he had attempted to send me in 2004, which was our senior year of college. The card was returned to him because he did not put my full name and he told me that he would look at it all the time and something told him not to throw it away. It was then that I knew he was the one for me. I told him that we had not been ready for each other back then and that more than 10 years later, God had brought us back to each other. Groom: I knew Rebecca was the one for me the day I met her at Benjamin E. Mays Hall on the campus of Morehouse in the fall of 2001.

How did he propose? Bride: We spent Christmas 2014 in Louisiana where Owen is from. I thought he was going to propose while I was there, but he flat out told me he was NOT going to propose on Christmas OR New Years. We left Louisiana on December 28 and when we got back to his home in Atlanta, he began to tell me how he felt bad that I was expecting a proposal over the holidays and told me his plans to propose and why they weren’t going to work…I started to tune him out and actually took my tablet out to play a game to take my mind off of the fact that he was not about to propose! He saw me losing attention and the next words I heard were, “So, I figured I should just propose now,” and I watched him get down on one knee. Everything else after that was a blur, but I do remember saying “YES” through my tears!

What’s the key to the success of your relationship? Both: Keeping God at the head of our household!

Why do you want to be included in JET love? Bride: To instill hope in others that love always finds a way. We had both recently accepted the fact that maybe God wanted us to be alone and are STILL in awe of how quickly things changed for both of us. My hope is that others will hear our story and believe that love is possible, right when you being to believe that it is impossible! It truly happens when you least expect it.
