In honor of Full Figured Fashion Week, we’re talking about bridal fashions for the curvy brides. Keep reading as I share some of my favorite silhouettes for the curvy bride.

ballroom gown

The ballroom gown works well for pear shapes.  If you want a more traditional look, in lieu of a little sexy, this will work well for you. This dress has a beautiful sweetheart neckline and satin rouched bodice.

lace straps

If you’re an apple shape, go for a dress with sleeves or straps.  I love this look–it gives more support than a strapless, without losing the sexiness.

lace A line

The A-line silhouette is a great choice, no matter the body type because it looks great on everyone!  When in doubt, take this route.

mermaid gown

The mermaid dress is one of the most popular styles for wedding gowns.  This silhouette will show off your curves and accentuate your waistline.  Pair this dress with the perfect veil for a show-stopping look. Very little jewelry is needed with this stunning frock.

Here are a few general things to keep in mind while shopping.

Samples are NOT one size fit all. Many boutiques keep sample sizes around bridal sizes between 8 and 14 (which is more like 6 to 12 in everyday clothing). Find a boutique that specializes in plus-sized dresses and doesn’t just offer a few options.

Always try it on. You may love a dress on the rack, but feel differently once you try it on. This will ensure that you absolutely LOVE your wedding dress.

Come prepared. Make sure you wear your foundation garments when shopping around! This will help to give you the best image of how you would look on your Big Day.  These tips apply to bridesmaids’ dresses, too.

Recruit a team. Don’t forget to get a great seamstress to take care of your alterations.

Have fun. Most of all, have fun while searching for the perfect dress and make sure that will make you feel amazing and make your groom’s eyes light up!!
