The concept of the preppy look is one that is dear to my heart. It is a classic look not often phased by trends with a touch of “less is more.” Plus, it’s the perfect foundation for a summer wedding!

Color Palettes

Peppy color palettes should include colors such as khaki, navy, and hunter green. Pair these subtle colors with bright hues such as pink and yellow. Here are just a few options for creating a preppy palette.

 Preppy Color Combos

The Urban Dictionary defines preppy as “someone who wears labels such as Polo and Brooks Brothers.  Hair ribbons or ribbon headbands, pearls, and other classic jewelry pull the look together…”

Dress the men of the wedding in neutrals, with a pop of color in their socks and bow ties (throw in suspenders to be a little trendy). Seersucker jackets are also an option for the handsome fellows in your wedding party.

Outfit the ladies in the pastels of your color pallet. For day-weddings, tea-length dresses are a must with a simple sandal or pump. If the dresses are strapless, add a strand of pearls for a classic look. Full-length simple styles work best for the evening.

Start by selecting a great venue. What says preppy more than a country or boat club for your nuptial setting? Once you have selected the place, adorn it with a classic style that your guests will love. The use of a classic pattern (like stripes or polka dots), will help set the stage.

When designing your preppy wedding fete, remember to keep it classic and chic with strategic use of color and patterns. Let your inner prep shine!
