Bridal Boudoir: The Sexy Wedding Trend
Welcome to Wedding Wisdom! Every week, wedding planner Tami Smallwood-Brown, CEO of blush|WEDDING & EVENT PLANNING FIRM gives tips to help you plan your dream nuptials from engagement to “I do.” This week, Tami shares tips for brides willing to take on the wedding boudoir photo trend.
The wedding day is full of all types of emotions – excitement, anxiety, and anticipation. May I suggest adding even more excitement with bridal boudoir photos? Brides all over have jumped on board with this sexy trend, but what is this really all about?
Here’s the lowdown: The bride partakes in a professional, sexy photo shoot and then gives the pictures to her groom as a wedding present. After seeing an example of such a shoot, I must admit I thought “this would make a great photo to send to any groom on the morning of the wedding.” Keep reading for my tips on how to go about presenting this awesome gift idea.
Start your planning about three to four months out from the wedding date.
If you and the groom already live together, use your home as a venue for your shoot. I think your love nest makes for a great visual and adds a certain “comfort” level when he sees the end product. If you do not yet live together, a hotel room can give you a nice backdrop. Perhaps you could use the location where you will stay your wedding night.
Make sure you plan the photo session on a day when your groom is not around or unlikely to swing by and interrupt the shoot. Your session will be a nearly all-day event – hair, makeup, and the actual shoot all take time.
Let’s start with hair. Here are some nice options that scream sexy. Go for the morning-after “bedhead” look.
Don’t forget to make up your face. This shoot is a great day to do a trial with your makeup artist. Keep your look sexy and natural.
Last but not least, let’s talk about lingerie. Websites such as AdoreMe.com are great for collecting everything you need for your shoot AND as a newlywed! Go with a bridal look, including your veil and anything else you think he may like.
Choose a photographer that specializes in boudoir photography. The right person for the job will make you comfortable and ease the awkward tension during the session.
Use a reputable photo book company that is professional and has a great reputation. One of my favorite sites is artisanstate.com, which includes a tool that will help with the layout of the book. I encourage my brides to write your groom a poem and make that the last page of the album. Vision and words make an awesome combination!
Ask your Maid of Honor to deliver your photo album to the groom on the morning of the wedding. Here’s a tip: Make sure that he is alone, as your gift will surely make him blush.
