Tying the Knot: Four Venues and a Wedding
Going to the chapel and getting married has never been part of my wedding vision. Even as a little girl, I dreamt about a fairy-tale princess wedding at Disney World outside of Cinderella’s castle, complete with horse-drawn carriage, glass slippers and, of course, my very own Prince Charming!
As an adult, however, I realized the hefty price tag associated with such a wedding and decided against shelling out a semi-fortune for such a lavish affair.
Long before we were engaged, Jeff and I decided a wedding venue expressive of our personality and story as a couple would be a better option, i.e., no church-and-banquet-hall formula here. Our first date took place at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium because it was halfway between Columbus, Ohio (where he was living at the time) and Baltimore, Maryland (where I was living at the time).
And we’ve visited numerous zoos, aquariums and museums since then. So, it’s only appropriate that we celebrate our wedding in a non-traditional setting. We also wanted a venue where we could host the entire event: ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. Read on to find out which one we chose! (Hint: As a diehard Ravens fan, I can tell you it’s NOT going to be in Pittsburgh!!)
