Tying the Knot

Top 10 Songs for Father-Daughter Dances

If there’s one part of weddings that’s guaranteed to make me cry, it’s the father-daughter dance. I absolutely treasure the relationship I have with my own father and I’m looking forward to having him walk me down the aisle later this year. Spoiler alert: We’ll both be in tears.

So in honor of Father’s Day this weekend, I’ve decided to share my 10 favorite songs for father-daughter dances. Be sure to leave your favorite in the comments!!

“Isn’t She Lovely?” by Stevie Wonder

Fun Fact: This song was the soundtrack to my first bath (and my sister’s), thanks to our dad! 🙂

“I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith

Did you know Steven Tyler wrote the theme song to Armageddon for his daughter, Liv Tyler? Awww!!

“You Are the Sunshine of My Life” by Stevie Wonder

This song actually reminds me of my grandfather, who dedicated it to me and my sister when we were younger.

“Butterfly Kisses” by Bob Carlisle

I can’t even listen to this song without shedding a tear. Cliche, but classic.

“Ballerina Girl” by Lionel Richie

What can I say? I have a soft spot for songs written by dads for their daughters.

“Daughters” by John Mayer

“Fathers, be good to your daughters, daughters will love as you do.” Enough said.

“Dance with My Father” by Luther Vandross

This song couldn’t be any more appropriate for a father-daughter dance.

“Unforgettable” by Nat King Cole & Natalie Cole

There won’t be a dry eye in the room if you play this classic father-daughter duet.

“My Girl” by The Temptations

This song actually works well as a mother-daughter dance, too. Feel the love!

“Lovely Day” by Bill Withers

This is actually my favorite song of all my time … so simple, so sweet!

Whatever you decide to play, it should be an expression of your relationship … so it can be serious or silly, it’s up to you!
