Three Things to Bring to Your First Fitting
When it was time for my mom, my sister and I to make our way to the alterations department at Kleinfeld in New York City, I was ready to be poked, prodded and otherwise pricked as the seamstress got to work on my Lazaro gown.
After all, I’ve watched enough Say Yes to the Dress to know what goes on.
After months of monitoring my weight and hoping for the best, I’m happy to announce IT FITS!
If your first fitting is coming up soon, be sure to bring these items:
1. Shoes: For best results, bring the shoes you plan to wear on your wedding day. At the very least, plan to wear shoes around the same heel height as your wedding shoes so the seamstress can hem your gown accordingly.
2. Proper Undergarments: Depending on your bust size and the style of your dress, you may or may not need to wear a bra with your gown. Some dress boutiques sell undergarments, but double check before you go. Take your bra with you to ensure the proper fit. And keep in mind VPL (visible panty line) as well … only your future spouse needs to know what you’re wearing underneath! 😉
3. Accessories: Whether it’s jewelry, a veil or a hair clip, this is the time to put together you’re entire look. Or, if you haven’t already purchased these items, to determine what will work best with your gown. Don’t be afraid to add a bit of personality here!
And last, but not least, don’t forget your maid of honor or best friend! This will most likely be the person in charge of bustling your dress so you can get down on the dance floor without tripping all over yourself.
