Would You Buy A Groupon Wedding?
As a bride on a budget, I’ve made it a habit of scouring daily deal sites such as Groupon, Living Social and Gilt City for wedding bargains. So far, I’ve found discounts on everything from invitations to photo booth rentals. But I never thought I’d see an entire wedding on one of these sites!
Earlier this week, I saw a deal on Gilt City for a wedding at the Renaissance Blackstone in Chicago for $31,000.
Let’s be clear: I love a bargain as much as the next girl, but something about purchasing something as special as my wedding on a daily deal site seems a bit…off-putting. But it’s not surprising…this is 2014, after all. Why shouldn’t you be able to purchase your entire wedding online?
Now don’t get me wrong, Gilt is offering a GREAT deal–especially when you consider that Chicago is the second most expensive place to get married in the United States following the New York-New Jersey area, according to TheKnot.com.
The $31,000 price tag (originally $46,000) includes a five-hour wedding reception for up to 120 guests; cocktail reception; four-hour premium bar; three-course dinner; cake; floral arrangements; brunch for the bridal party and lunch for the groomsmen; after-party with food and drink; post-wedding brunch; newlywed suite and so much more!!
If we hadn’t already put down deposits for everything in Baltimore, I would’ve strongly considered it. And, for newly engaged couples who’ve yet to decide on a venue, etc., I advise you act fast before the deal runs out.
I can’t help but wonder if this is the start of a new trend. If so, will you be participating? Take our poll and share your thoughts in the comments below!
