Ryan Peters & Michael Austin

Venue: Piedmont Community Church in Oakland, CA

Honeymoon: Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Home: Oakland, CA

• Ryan is a business consultant and artist at RPA Consulting. Michael is a regional lead consulting associate at Kaiser Permanente. The Oakland natives crossed paths many times over the years but did not begin dating until adulthood. After dinner on a rainy night in San Francisco, Michael put one knee on the wet concrete and proposed to Ryan. Restaurant patrons looking through the window  cheered when Ryan responded with a gleeful “yes.”

He knew he was in love when…

He began to put Ryan’s needs and the needs of the relationship before his own without being prompted or even thinking about it.

She knew she was in love when…

Michael inadvertently became the focal point for every decision she made and every conversation she had.

In 10 years we will…

Be working as a team to achieve our individual and collective goals, raising our future children, being healthy, active in our community, spending time with family and growing and deepening our connection day-by-day.

Before the groom got married, he wishes someone had told him…

That marriage is awesome despite the fact that many people and popular culture say otherwise. If you love your partner and trust and communicate openly, honestly and often, everyday can be the honeymoon. Any work on the relationship you may have to do won’t seem like work at all. It’s just strengthening the bond, which in turn makes your stronger.

Before the bride got married, she wishes someone had told her…

Nothing at all. Receiving advice from friends and family is priceless, but every marriage is as unique as a fingerprint.  Learning the intricacies of ours is my greatest adventure by far.

Our favorite activity to do together is…

Everything actually. We can get dressed up and go to a gala or stay home and lounge on the couch.  Even our disputes manage to become enjoyable.  Whenever we’re together, we are learning and having fun.

Our nicknames for each other are…

“SP” because she is my “Sweetie Pie” and “Cakes” because he has the sweetest little booty I have ever seen!

Our favorite place to spend time together is…

At the home we are creating for ourselves. We have hectic schedules and spend a lot of time out in the community, so we really enjoy the moments when we can sit back and chill in our nest.

Our song is…

“Sure Thing” by Miguel and “Central Park West” by John Coltrane.

Our perfect date night is…

Experiencing something new together; be it a new cuisine, new wine or a new social happening. We have both been blessed to see and do a lot individually, so anytime we can find a new thing and live through the wonderment together it deepens our connection to one another.
