Tell us your love story: Both: Balondemu and I met volunteering with Concerned Citizens of Memphis to feed and clothe the homeless.
When did you know that your partner was the one? Both: We aren’t sure! There are so many factors that led us to each other, that it seems as if we were destined and supposed to be together. We recognized and accepted that fact pretty early in our relationship and just worked toward the goal of marriage and having children.
How did he propose? Groom: Denice is a singer, and I attended a performance of hers at the Memphis Kwanzaa International building. After the performance, we went on our first date. A year later, we started volunteering at that building; working with children in a right of passage program. I surprised Denice by proposing to her during a volunteer session. I wanted to propose to her where it all began while we were doing what we love most, community work.
What’s the key to the success of your relationship? Both: Communication and fulfilling our purpose by serving our community together.
Why do you want to be included in JET love? Both: We believe that Black love should be celebrated. We love that JET does that and displays positive images of that, and we want to be included in that as well!
