Tell us your love story: Groom: We met at work when I was a security officer. She came into the courthouse that I was working in and when I saw her, I made sure I was in her line to scan her. I didn’t know at the time to what extent, but I knew that we would be deeply involved in each other’s lives for a long time. Bride: Corey and I met while working in the same building. We were just friends for several years. We would spend our lunches and breaks talking about our lives and our relationships.
When did you know that your partner was the one? Groom: I knew she was the one when I realized that through all of the stuff I had been through, all of the mistakes I made, she always stayed around and still gave me a chance. She made me want to gain my integrity and honor back. I realized how invaluable our friendship was and that in her, God finally blessed me with the one thing I had prayed for since I was a kid and that was a best friend. Bride: After both of us went through some rough times in our individual lives, it became clear that the one consistency was our ability to talk, be completely honest and be friends. He was a gentleman and a real friend. That security and stability let me know that he was the one.
What was your most memorable moment from your wedding day? Groom: My most memorable moment was seeing her turn the corner to walk down the aisle. I never thought she could be any more beautiful, but she completely took my breath away and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since. It was the most surreal moment of my life, seeing this person that I’ve known as a friend for almost a decade now walking down the aisle towards me to become my wife. Bride: My most memorable moment was seeing him smile at me while I was walking down the aisle. He had the happiest, most content smile. He never broke eye contact with me. I felt like I finally had the man God would have for me and it was the sweetest moment I have ever had.
What’s the key to success in your relationship? Groom: God and always remembering that we were friends first. I say that because we put six years into our friendship without ever crossing any lines and over time, we developed a level of honesty in our communication that you can’t develop overnight or in a straight to dating scenario. During those years we had the opportunity to speak our minds openly without fear of offending each other as you could in a relationship and learned how to respect each other’s opinions. Bride: The key to our relationship is God and friendship for sure. Friends always treat each other with respect and honesty, so we maintain that in our relationship and we rely on God to show us how to love one another.
