Katrina Patterson & Marquis Harvey

Venue: St. Paul A.M.E. in Arkadelphia, AR

Honeymoon: Shreveport, LA

Home: Arkadelphia, AR

Katrina is an auditor for Southern Bancorp. Marquis is a parts manager for AutoZone. After running into Katrina for the the third time, Marquis decided to make his move and scored dinner with her the same week. Shortly after meeting, he told Katrina God had revealed to him that she would be his wife. She responded, “Why didn’t God tell me?” But following nearly three years of dating, Katrina readily agreed when Marquis proposed via a message in a bottle during a moonlit gondola ride. The lovebirds both believe their union is the result of answered prayers.

He knew he was in love when…

They had their first very long and detailed conversation about family and they both used the word “CRAZY” to describe their mothers. He knew he had found the one because he could understand where she was coming from with the mom stories.

She knew she was in love when…

He gave her a different gift every day for a week during their dating stage. The last gift was an African violet that he left on her back porch which contained a note on where to meet him and when. Needless to say, she didn’t find the African violet, so he had to call and inform her of its location.  He had planned a nice moonlight picnic for her by the lake with all of her favorites.

In 10 years we will…

Hopefully have two kids, be very stable and secure in our careers, life and family, and continue to grow stronger every day as partners.

Before the groom got married, he wishes someone had told him…

That immediately after saying “I Do,” the feeling of protector, provider and head of household had a stronger and more powerful meaning instantly. All of the views and focus of a man shifted automatically.

Before the bride got married, she wishes someone had told her…

How to juggle a husband, a house, a career, volunteering for various groups and working out. It is a daily struggle to make sure nothing falls behind, priorities are set and saying no to a few things.

Our favorite activities to do together are…

Really anything that allows us to spend more quality time together. We have date nights every Friday, which consists of movies, dinner and sometimes Monopoly. We do not talk about work, finances, family or anything that doesn’t relate to just us in that moment. We enjoy getting away from the world and just being focused on learning more about each other no matter how silly the findings may be. We also love to travel and enjoy new experiences and sites together.

Our nicknames for each other are…

“GG” (God’s Gift), “Pokey” and “Chocolate Giant” because he truly feels that she was an answer to his prayer and that God sent her to him directly.  She used to say “Okie Dokie Pokey” so much, instead of saying “ok,” that he started using “Pokey” and it stuck. “Chocolate Giant” actually came from a Spike Lee movie titled Miracle at St. Anna, which we watched late one night and it just kind of stuck, considering he is 6’6″ and most people consider him a giant.

Our favorite place to spend time together is…

Actually at home.  We love to relax in our own little bubble and have quality time together. Restaurants are nice, but they are not private and personal. We love having picnics and candlelight dinners at home. We have even dressed up and eaten dinner in the house before. I had on a gown and he had on a suit as if we were going to one of the fanciest places ever.

Our song is…

“The One He Kept For Me” by Maurette Brown Clark.

Our perfect date night is…

Great food, an amazing dessert and cuddling up to watch a great Redbox movie.
