Dommie & Obbie Williams

Celebrating Their 50th Wedding Anniversary

Home: Augusta, GA

What is key to the success of your marriage?

“That I always have the final say on any issue,” states Obbie. “The last word is always, ‘Yes, Dear,’” he asserts.

What advice would you give younger couples?

“Marriage is a test of endurance,” Dommie shares. “Be thankful for bad days because they make you appreciate the good times even more.”

What do you love the most about marriage?

“She’s my yesterday, today and tomorrow,” says Obbie. “Waking up is so sweet because I know she will always be by my side.”

He knew he was in love when…

In the latter part of 1961, when he returned from a tour in Germany and started to date Dommie, after a short time he discovered he wanted to be with her 24 hours a day.

She knew she was in love when…

She recognized his sincerity and dedication and saw his great growth potential.

In 10 years we will…

Be making plans to celebrate 60 years of holy matrimony and believe it or not, even after fifty years love continues to grow.

Before the groom got married, he wishes someone had told him…

No matter how much you love someone, you must be willing to make adjustments as needed.

Before the bride got married, she wishes someone had told her…

It takes love, time and commitment to build a marriage. Some people are in relationships, while others are married.  Once that marital relationship is established, it is sealed by God and it is permanent.

Our favorite activities to do together are…

Traveling, bowling, playing Scrabble and cards.  There are many other things we do together because it has become a natural lifestyle of sharing, caring and depending on each other.

Our nicknames for each other are…

“Sister DJ” because Obbie likes the sound of it (truncated from her proper name – Dommie Jean).  Dommie calls him “Baby” because he loves attention.

Our favorite place to spend time together is…

Our home, because it is a place of much joy and a spiritual oasis built on a foundation of love.

Our song is…

Al Green’s “God Bless Our Love.”

Our perfect date night is…

Every night we spend together. The older you get, you realize it is the quality of time spent together and you cherish every moment. We still go to bed at night and look forward to the comfort of each other and we awake ready to share another beautiful day together that God has given us.
