Tell us your love story: Bride: We actually met at Dover High School in 2007. I transferred to Dover High my junior year, so I was the “new girl” at the school. I played volleyball and James played basketball. I soon found out that James had a crush on me, but at the time, I was in a relationship. About two years later, we found ourselves getting really close as friends. We would hang out pretty much every day and would do everything together. In 2009, we finally decided to make things official and seven years later, I realized it was the best decision I ever made. I could not imagine my life without my husband.

When did you know that your partner was the one? Bride: I knew he was the one while I was still trying to keep him in the “friend zone.” It was the summer of 2009 and we were together literally every day. He was such a gentleman; we always had so much fun together and would stay up until like 2 a.m. just talking about everything— knowing that we both had work early the next morning. I remember looking at him one day and thinking, “Wow, I’m really falling for him.” The words didn’t come out my mouth in that moment, but about a week later we made it official.  Groom: I knew she was the one from the moment I saw her that day at Dover High in 2007. There was just something special about her and I knew one day I would make her mine. Once I got to know her better, I liked that she was fun and I could joke around with her. Although I had to wait a very long time before she was officially my girlfriend, it was worth the wait.

What was your most memorable moment from your wedding day? Bride: The entire evening was filled with memorable moments, but one of my favorite moments was during dinner. My husband wrote me a song and had our DJ play it while everyone was eating their dinner. I was shocked and so confused because the song wasn’t familiar, but I heard my name in the song. I initially thought he got a friend to rap the verse, but then I realized it was James rapping the lyrics. I was so impressed and I thought it was the sweetest thing. He had one of our close friends sing the chorus of the song; it was just so perfect. All of our guests loved the song and our bridal party was singing the chorus as it was pretty easy to catch on to. There’s a part in the song where he says, “I love you like you love sleep, you hate the alarm and every time I’m with you, it’s like the world’s standing still. You’re the best I ever had I’m feeling like Drake.” The name of the song is called, “We Mayed It” and it was super appropriate as my new last name is May, we got married in the month of May and our hashtag for the wedding was #justMayedit2016. Everything was just so perfect and special!

What’s the key to success in your relationship? Bride: I would say the key to success in our relationship is the fact that we can do everything together and we keep an open line of communication. In order for a relationship to be successful you have to be able to communicate with one another through the good, the bad and the indifferent. It is easy to “shut down” your feelings when things get rough, but if you are able to communicate and get over tough times together, you can make it through anything.
