With artists such as Lupe Fiasco and Common calling the city home, it’s fair to say that Chicago’s hip-hop scene has a reputation for producing quality. So when Rockie Fresh (real name Donald Pullen) performed his first hometown show to a sold out crowd at the age of 17, he realized he was more than just good; he was moving towards greatness.
“It was the biggest eye-opener because it showed people really supported me,” he remembers. Three years later, the young MC has toured the country, was named one of BET’s newest Music Matters artists and scored a quarter million YouTube views. And he isn’t even 21 yet.
