“We kind of got beaten over the head with the same images,” Lamar, 36, explains of the inspiration for the popular online destination. “We want people to know that there are happy couples out there,” Lamar’s wife, Ronnie, adds.
The site, known today as Black and Married with Kids, has transformed from an inspirational outlet to multimedia powerhouse— releasing short films about marriage, empowering music videos, and posts from a team of staff writers. The efforts even landed the Tylers a coveted spot last year on EBONY’s Power 100 list.
The two are currently getting ready for their foray into television as weekly commentators on HLN’s Raising America with Kyra Phillips.
“We always say that marriage may not be for everyone,” Ronnie, 40, admits, “But we at least want it to be an option.”
