5 Things About: The Ultimate Wingman, Thomas Edwards Jr.

By//S. Tia Brown

One of the nation’s foremost wingmen didn’t start off schmoozing the ladies. In fact, he was ready to wed at the tender age of 19. “I had gotten her parents’ blessing,” Thomas Edwards Jr., 26, reflects. “Then I found out she was cheating.”

But there is a bright side to that setback. It propelled the Boston native into self- improvement mode, from love to life.

Working as a hotel valet after college, he launched a blog about making personal connections at after-hours bars. His connector abilities had begun drawing attention, but a chance visit to the SXSW fest in 2009 led to the launch of his business. When a festgoer offered to pay him for his hookup skills, Edwards realized there was money where his mouth was. By June 2009, he’d left his day job to work full-time on theprofessionalwingman.com.
